Tomas Kapusta Launches Player Advising Services for Youth and Junior Hockey Players

Tomas Kapusta is a 1985 NHL Entry Draft pick by the Edmonton Oilers and a 20-year professional hockey veteran who represented the Czech Republic at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer and competed in three Junior World Championships and one Senior World Championship. Beyond his playing career, Kapusta built a coaching and organizational résumé that includes seven years operating the USPHL San Diego Sabres, eight years as Coach and Hockey Director for the Jr. Kings organization, and 12 years in the same role with Jr. Reign and presently as a Hockey Director with California Surf. He is still involved with the USPHL San Diego Sabers as a skills coach and Director of Player Development and scouting for NCDC Ontario Junior Reign and NAHL Aberdeen Wings. He has developed players across the board up to the AAA, Junior and College level and at the same time helping players to be able to attend the worldwide universities with English undergraduate and graduate programs they can apply to Europe and North America. Tomas has spent years in Europe building Euro camps and across the globe, filling rosters to compete in tournaments like the Lions Cup. Through his efforts competing in worldwide tournaments, he has helped players transition from their local markets to North America and enabled North American players to play at the university level abroad and getting to the professional level worldwide.

Kapusta currently serves as Hockey Director and Head Coach at California Surf Hockey, overseeing the 14U, 16U, and 18U age groups, and holds a teaching credential from CSULB, and currently teaches at Excel Academy Charter School — experience that has shaped his approach to coaching and advising players both on and off the ice. His work at St. John Bosco High School as Ice Hockey Head Coach serves as a conductor for everything he does to serve players. St. John Bosco Prep School including the ice hockey program represents everything Kapusta values. Higher education, sharpening young men, developing players at the highest level both on and off the ice. This paired with St. John Bosco HS top education as one of the top schools in the country with sporting programs.

Kapusta's new advising service is for any player looking to go beyond where they currently are — whether that means moving from AA to AAA, AAA to juniors, college hockey at ACHA, NCAA, or worldwide universities with a hockey program, or simply taking the next step in their development, wherever that path leads. The service is built around honest, no-nonsense evaluation: an initial advisory session to map out career pathways, structured goal-setting instructions, and once a month in-season film reviews with a sport-specific advisor, with players expected to submit film through InStat or directly to their advisor. Beyond the technical side, Kapusta positions himself as a consistent voice for players and families working through decisions on teammates, coaches, and the personal challenges that come with competing at a high level.
